Title: When We Serve
As for me and my household, we will serve the LORD. – Joshua 24:15
When I was a little boy, I loved to work on cars with my dad. My contributions at first were no more than fetching tools and cold drinks for him. As I grew into my teenage years, I continued to help him, and as my skills grew, I was allowed to do more. On one occasion, I didn’t want to help and complained the whole way to the garage. My dad taught me a lesson that day that I have since passed on to my kids. What he said to me that day was, “If you’re going to help, then stop complaining and give me your all.” The repair was long, and we were at it for more hours than I can remember, but seeing my dad in his resolve to fix the problem really is a memory I cherish. That day, my dad showed me what grit looked like.
This verse is ‘as for me and my house, and we will serve the Lord not as for me and my house we will complain when we serve the Lord. When all you do is complain about serving God, what attribute might we miss that the Father is trying to show us about himself? As the scripture says, we must put our nose to the grindstone and serve; faith without works is dead. Guys, I know this will sound harsh, but stop complaining and be resolute in your service to God.
Real men show resolve in serving.
