Title: Enter in with Expectations
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double- edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart – Hebrews 4:12
Alive, active, penetrates, divides, and judges. These are all verbs-words of action used to describe the Word of God. So why does the disconnect so readily enter into my time into His word? In all honesty, words like life support, stale, and shallow have, at times, typified my time reading the Bible. How and why does that occur? Simply put, it all falls on the reader.
When we read God’s Word without expectation, we are merely going through the motions. None of us go to a gas station, pay the attendant (Oregon), and watch as the tank is filled and not expect when we turn the key to have our engine start up and roar away. So, too, should be our time in the Bible. We should enter the pages with the expectation that the words we read are intended to give us the power to go. To expect less never gets us out of the station.
Real men read the Bible with expectation.
