Title: The LORD is your courage
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. – Ephesians 6:10
Have you heard of Desmond Doss? When I think of the word courage, this man exemplifies it. He was a Medal of Honor winner from World War II. In short, Doss and his battalion were getting attacked as they climbed up a 400-foot ridge. His battalion was under artillery, mortar, and machine gunfire. As they pushed forward, 75 casualties and wounded were strewn about while every hell imaginable rained down on them. Private Doss proceeded to carry all 75 casualties to safety. The kicker in this story was that Private Doss was a conscientious objector to the war, under his Seventh-Day Adventist beliefs, and thus refused to carry a gun!
Where does a man gain such courage? Was that something he was born with? Maybe. But look back at the verse. It doesn’t say be strong and do it on your own. Instead, be strong in the LORD and HIS mighty power. I and mine don’t supersede Lord and His. Great courage is not personal endurance but rather divine confidence.
Real men are courageous in Christ.
