Exalt the Lord our God and worship at his footstool; he is holy. – Psalm 99:5
Proportionately speaking, a footstool is a small accessory compared to a throne. Picture it: God is on the throne (big), and we are welcome to approach His footstool (small).
While many Scriptures emphasize God’s immanence (nearness), this one reminds us of His transcendence—that God is entirely outside of and beyond the world.
We exalt God to His rightful place—high above us when we worship. Then, our wonder at the chasm He crossed to draw near to us in Christ can be fully appreciated.
Real men exalt God to His highest place.
