Title: Jesus Invested
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters – Colossians 3:23
Finger waging “God is watching you…” type of approach to this passage, but let’s take a different angle.
Have you ever had a boss at work for whom you would gladly do a difficult task? Or a teacher in school that inspired you to do extra work? Was there a coach that motivated you beyond your limits? Most of us can identify with at least one of these examples. These people were able to pull things out of us; we didn’t even know existed. Coaches, teachers, and bosses did this by investing in our lives and being there for us through our successes and failures. They cared. Similarly, Peter was willing to step out of the boat for Jesus and do the impossible.
Jesus has invested more in our lives than any other. (His death and resurrection trump all!) He’s there for us through our failures and successes. He loves us.
The love of Christ motivates us. So we pull weeds, crunch numbers, reprimand employees, collect the garbage, raise funds, do the dishes, close the deal, and repair equipment, not out of guilt or obligation but gratitude.
Real Men work for the Lord
