Title: All on the Grenade
“Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves” Romans 12:10
I love military movies, books, museums, and the like. I never served in the military, but I am inspired by those who have. A recurring theme amongst military movies and life is the character of honor. It is foundational to our military’s strength, and it often is the one consistency in the military movie genre.
The idea of honor comes in many forms, but the one that gets to me most often is the soldier who sacrifices his own life to save others’ lives. It plays out in different forms, but the one that comes to mind most often is the soldier who sees the live grenade thrown into his area. Rather than running away, he throws himself on the grenade as it explodes, saving the lives of those around him.
How many of us as men would be willing to do that for a brother? Be it a real grenade, or a theoretical one, are you ready to throw yourself on it to save another? That grenade could be a friend’s addiction. Am I willing to sacrifice myself to see him be saved? Could that grenade be my own pride and reputation? Am I ready to fall on that grenade to allow others to live?
Real Men: sacrifice to see others live.
