Title: A real relationship with God
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up. – Ephesians 4:29a
The story of Jonah has much insight into authenticity. I kept thinking about what an authentic relationship Jonah had with God. First, he ran from God and asked God why he did what he did. Then, in anger, he tells God he knew God would forgive the people of Nineveh. Then God asks Jonah, do you think you have the right to be angry? And yes was the answer, and God’s grace was enough for the people of Nineveh and Jonah. Now, that is a real relationship with God. So the story made it clear that God wants our authenticity, and he can handle my anger, temper tantrums, and whatever else I bring to Him.
Real Men – Seek an authentic relationship with God.
