Title: Good Pride/Bad Pride
“Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall – Proverbs 16:18
We all have pride. Be sure not to label all pride as bad. There is good pride in good things (being proud of your kids, for example). The warning of pride here is the empty kind. A haughty spirit is a heart that is overinflated and infatuated with oneself. When our hearts are full of ourselves, we push people away, and we often experience the fall or destruction in relationships. Think about it. Who wants to be around someone like that?
The spiritual discipline that helps keep pride in check is humility. It comes through serving others and seeing their views and opinions as necessary and valid as your own. It’s an essential spiritual practice that both Jesus spoke about. “The greatest among you will be your servant”- Matt 23:11.
Real Men serve others.
