Title: It’s up to us.
Those who cling to worthless idols turn away from God’s love for them. – Jonah 2:8
I believe that to the degree you and I turn and cling to would-be substitutes for God’s loving provision, we experience its absence. Conversely, to the degree we turn and cling to God Himself to get our needs and longings met, we experience less desire to go elsewhere.
It’s up to us. God does not need to do anything more to prove His love for us than He’s already done in Christ. It’s you and me who need to quit making excuses for our idolatry—whether we call it a hobby, habit, happy place, or addiction—and cling to Him only during our times of weariness, pain, loneliness, anger, sadness, or confusion.
Are you tired of cheap substitutes? Are you longing for God’s love to capture your heart so that you turn to nothing but Him?
Real men lay down their idols.
