For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. – Matthew 23:12
In this passage, Jesus is warning people not to be like Pharisees. He talks about how they want to be honored and tell others what to do, but they aren’t willing to put in the work or even follow their own instructions. Nobody wants to be a Pharisee, but falling into that line of thinking is easier than you think. The key to avoiding pharisaical thinking is found in the verse before:
The greatest among you will be your servant. – Matthew 23:11
The key is service. If you are putting others before yourself, then it is almost impossible to become prideful.
Real Men stay humble by putting others first.
