Black Friday is dead! The traditional start of the Christmas shopping season, held on the day after Thanksgiving, is a thing of the past now that retail stores are starting the Christmas shopping season on Thanksgiving day. Call the undertaker, buy the casket, and have the tombstone engraved! “Rest In Peace,” Black Friday!
Sadly, Thanksgiving Day is now next. On a day when we are given the opportunity to give thanks to God for the blessings of our life, we shop until we drop so that we can get the best prices on the gifts we give at Christmas. As a culture, we’ve traded stuffing for stuff, and we have exchanged an attitude of giving thanks to God for a materialistic orgy of getting.
As men who claim to care about our faith and family, let’s protect this holiday gift and give thanks to our Maker and Provider. Let’s set aside the desire to get a great deal so we can devote one day of thankfulness to God by spending time with our most precious gift, our family.
Real men are thankful for God, not stuff.
