“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” – Matthew 28:18
This small phrase buried in Jesus’ words at the end of Matthew’s Gospel in the great commission is a very powerful phrase if you really take time to think about it. After His crucifixion and resurrection, just before Jesus ascends up into heaven, He reminds us that ALL authority has been given to Him by God Himself. Not just some authority, but ALL of it. In other words, Jesus is in charge, He is sovereign over everything. And because He has complete authority over the entire universe, you and I can trust Him with every detail of our lives. We don’t have to be in control of our lives anymore because He is! All we need to do is learn to trust Him and that begins by praying and telling Him that we recognize His authority. It also means confessing that we believe He can handle the details of our lives better than we can.
Do you believe that? Do you believe that Jesus is the final authority in the universe? If you do, then stop trying to control every detail of your life and trust Him with those details today!
