The LORD is the strength of his people, a fortress of salvation for his anointed one. – Psalm 28:8
My family lived on a couple of acres growing up. In our back yard were a load of trees, one of those being a pine tree. It was one of those trees that grew those long pinecones that were dense and hard as a rock. When my cousins came over we used to have pine cone fights between my brother and my older cousin. Mind you they were 6 years older than me, and 4 years older than my teammate. The assault would begin, and there were no prisoners in this game. We would always retreat to a fort without any ammo, and be pinned down. Our only hope for further ammo was to stick our heads out and risk taking a missile to the face. Inevitably there would be tears and screams until my dad would come out back and sneak up on them and level his own attack on my brother and cousin to the joy of me and my teammate.
Such is the Heavenly Father for us. He is that mighty fortress and high tower that we can run to as we face the onslaught of the enemy. In Him is our strength. In Him we find refuge. In Him we have the ability to charge off into the battle that is this life.
Real men find their strength in the Lord.
